Old Man Rankings for C and D

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make it out to Liberty to see any of the games this weekend. Tournaments like this prove the saying “That’s why they play the games.” Just because a team looks good on paper, doesn’t always mean they will perform on the field. There were a bunch of upsets, bracket busters, and surprises. Certainly a bad weekend for all the Big Hoss Report prognosticators.
Here are my rankings for this week.

C Rankings for 5/9/11

With no USSSA class C action going on this past weekend, the rankings remain the same from last week. Although TG/TPS/ Elite did win a NSA Class C Super NIT in Potterville this weekend earning a berth to the NSA C “Super” World Tournament in Las Vegas. Even though it wasn’t a USSSA tournament, the win just solidifies their top billing.

1. TG/ TPS/ Elite
2. P&P 333/ Suburban/ Larry’s Tire/ CMT
3. Line Drive/ Triple sSs Sports Cards
4. Great Lakes Express
5. Mayhem/Wolf-Hulbert/DC Realties/Wolf-Hulber

D Rankings for 5/9/11

1. Mush Reloaded/ Sinister/D
They showed that they are beatable by losing to Perkins this weekend. They also showed that they deserve the #1 spot by running through the loser’s bracket in impressive fashion outscoring their opponents 75-21. After Chris Filicia’s bachelor party Saturday night, I’m surprised they even showed up to play Sunday morning.

2. Detroit Drama
They played a solid tournament this weekend losing to a hot Perkins team and then making a little run of their own before running into the buzz saw in the Loser’s semi final. Only averaging 9 runs a game is a slight concern.

3. Perkins Insurance/ Trillium/ Butches
This team was in my pre season top 5 and the only reason they weren’t in the top 5 last week was because they didn’t play. They knocked off two top teams this weekend in their first two games. Being a little short handed and being their first time out finally caught up with them against a hot DO team. This is a team that needs to stay in the winner’s bracket too be successful. They are too “experienced” to make deep runs through the loser’s bracket. Getting Jo Jo back will be a big help in the pitching dept.

4. DO/ Mushtube.com
Nice run by these guys this weekend. I may have ranked them even higher if they didn’t have 2 guys from R & L playing for them and both their losses didn’t come at the hands of an “E” team. (More on that in my E rankings) Good to see their runs against avg. down from last weekend.

5. Phillies/ Xtreme/ Sports 55
Taking a weekend off drops them a few spots this week.

Surprise Team of the Week

Perkins Insurance/ Trillium/ Butches
Beating two teams in everyone’s top 5 the first time out.

Disappointing Team of the Week

D-Nation
What a difference a week makes. After 2 promising weekends they only scored 13 runs in their 2 loses.
